• Under discussion for several months, the extension of the Stade Rennais training center seems to be on the right track at La Piverdière.

  • On Wednesday evening, the football club announced that it was renouncing to extend on a wild plot of 2.6 hectares which constituted a point of friction.

  • Instead, the club agrees to develop three pitches on the Moulin-du-Comte site.

Closer to Roazhon Park but further from its future training center.

The announcement was made in the absence of the principal concerned.

On Wednesday evening, the Prévalaye management committee learned of the abandonment of the latest version of the project to extend its training center at La Piverdière.

This decision was announced by Didier Chapellon, elected ecologist for the city of Rennes who oversees this management committee, as announced by

.

The extension of the Henri-Guérin center is not in question, but it will be limited to the 3.5 hectares which had almost reached consensus last year.

"A red line not to cross"

In less than two months, a lot has changed.

While he had announced his intention to nibble on a wild plot of 2.6 hectares on March 1, Stade Rennais finally reversed his decision.

“During our studies and drawing inspiration from other training centres, we noticed that we could not achieve our competitiveness objectives with such limited land.

If we limit ourselves to 3.5 hectares, we will only be able to make an additional piece of land in addition to the six we already have.

It's not sufficient.

We need ten pitches”, launched Karim Houari at the beginning of March.

Since then, the stadium manager of Stade Rennais has left the company.

And the club returned to this choice, described unanimously as "a red line not to be crossed" by the elected officials and associations present within the management committee, which was already meeting for the 12th time on Wednesday evening.

Redeveloped land on the Moulin-du-Comte site

To compensate for the abandonment of the famous 2.6-hectare plot, Stade Rennais has agreed to fall back on three fields which will be redeveloped on the Moulin-du-Comte site and shared with other structures.

Land that will be a little far from its future head office but located a stone's throw from Roazhon Park, where the somewhat obsolete premises of its training center are located (which must move to La Piverdière).

To justify this choice, Stade Rennais evokes its desire "to find a consensus" and ensures "to adapt permanently".

“From our point of view, the conditions are now met for Stade Rennais to implement its project”, declare the elected environmentalists, who sit in the majority with Nathalie Appéré.

The municipal council will have to look into the question in June during a deliberation on a right of occupation of its land by the football club of François Pinault.

The latter hopes to file his new building permit "in September 2022".
