One of the 5,000 sheep on a farm in Lake Tekapo (New Zealand) disappeared almost four years ago.

The animal was finally found, by chance, on April 14 with nearly 20 kg of wool on him, almost double his weight, reports the

Washington Post

.

The sheep had been all along "in a rocky outcrop of Mount Edward", an area close to the farm.

To survive all this time, the animal had at its disposal a large amount of grass.

"He didn't have any predators like bears or lynxes," noted farm owner Gavin Loxton.

Shearing was thus organized on April 18 to free the sheep from this weight.

The animal was sheared by world champion sheep shearer Tony Dobbs and over 300 people attended the event and were able to bet on the total weight of the wool.

The animal was named 'Shrekapo', a reference to another New Zealand sheep, 'Shrek', which was found in 2004 after being missing for 6 years.

In the meantime, 27 kg of wool had grown on him…
