Read patient records illegally - the region did not report the intrusion

It was a few weeks ago that the rumor began to spread that an employee at the region had entered patient records.

Several people have since entered 1177 and received the intrusion, which is several years back in time, confirmed.

SVT Nyheter Uppsala has been in contact with about ten women who claim to have been affected.

But it is said to be significantly more than that.

- I know about 70 people where this woman has been in their records - it's awful, says one woman.

All of us we have been in contact with say they know the person who has entered their records.

And it is therefore not allowed by law to go into a medical record as a care employee if you do not participate in the care.

Alarmed the region 2019

Another woman, whom we call Delal but who is actually called something else, already in 2019 drew the Uppsala Region's attention to the fact that an employee had entered her journal.

- I did not feel that I was taken seriously.

I was locked from one to the other and felt like I was being waved away.

Why did you not report to the police?

- The police wanted me to start connecting the care, but after all the trips there and the little response I got, several thought I should let it go.

I did not have the strength to fight on, says Delal.

Managers were told

Several people at the Uppsala Region have been asked about the case, but all have refused to appear for an interview.

An official note states that the region would pass on material to prosecutors, but this was never done.

This is how General Counsel Anne Nilsson writes in an email to SVT:

"There is no registered police report.

Upon contact with the police, it is stated that no police report has been submitted in Dec 2019 or Jan 2020 regarding the employee. "

After SVT has examined the accusations of data intrusion, the Uppsala Region announces in another email that they are now doing "an in-depth investigation of the case".

The designated woman, who has been employed in the region for about seven years, continues to work today.

SVT Uppsala has contacted her by phone, but she did not want to answer any questions.
