A new avenue of Enlightenment is getting closer.

The Governing Board of the Madrid City Council gives the green light today, Thursday, to the

redevelopment project on the northern flank of this great artery

, located in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district.

The works, which will

begin before the summer, will last around a year

and will involve a municipal investment of 9.3 million euros.

The Illustration Avenue, designed in the 80s of the last century, marked the northern closure of the M-30 with a concept halfway

between a high-capacity motorway and the traditional boulevards

of Madrid.

This configuration, maintained to this day, will be updated offering a greater presence of pedestrian and residential traffic.

"The objective is to improve the quality of this urban space, thinking of the passer-by and the local user, proposing this road as

a public meeting place and relationship between the neighbors

", they point out from the Works and Equipment area, a department that will be in charge of carrying out this project.

The intervention will consist of the renovation and improvement of the existing pavements and the updating of the configuration of the pedestrian itineraries;

the adequacy of flower beds and garden areas;

the

improvement of those playgrounds for children and the elderly

, as well as the rest of the urban furniture elements;

and the renewal of public lighting and its replacement by more energy-efficient luminaires and lamps.

Reorganization of Santiago de Compostela

In the same way, the remodeling will cover the section with the highest residential proportion, the

one between Betanzos avenue and Alfredo Marqueríe street

, where the condition of the sidewalks will be improved and Santiago de Compostela street will be reorganized.

The scope of action is an urban piece made up of both a road axis and an important succession of free spaces that constitute, in practice, a vegetated strip of more than a kilometer and a half in length and about 40 meters in width, the surface being total of

more than 55,300 square meters.

The great vault of trees, made up of a line of

leafy specimens on each side separated by about six meters

, will delimit the walking area.

This route corresponds to the bed of a stream that was part of the old topography and, therefore, the water will be recovered as an element of continuity so that it accompanies the trees through the placement of

various ornamental fountains.

This remodeling will be completed later with a second phase that will involve intervention on the south side and

whose project has already begun to be drawn up

in the Works and Equipment area.
