The crisis within the Government about the

swerve

over the Sahara is still burning.

This Thursday, the Minister of Consumer Affairs and leader of the United Left, Alberto Garzón, met with a "high-ranking representative" of

the Polisario Front

to convey his support and reject the "new stage" in relations with

Morocco

inaugurated by Pedro Sánchez and Mohamed VI .

"Izquierda Unida does not accept this type of games and we are going to do everything possible to redirect this situation," said the federal coordinator of the IU, who met with important representatives of the Polisario Front abroad, such as

Oubi Bachir

, a representative of the Polisario Front for Europe and the European Union, and

Abdullah Arabi

, its delegate for Spain.

In the meeting, as detailed by IU, both parties discussed "about the PSOE's change of position, evidenced by Pedro Sánchez from his position as Prime Minister, now supporting the position of the Moroccan regime on the occupied territories of Western Sahara".

The meeting took place just three weeks after Sánchez sealed an agreement with Mohamed VI that began joint work between Spain and Morocco after inaugurating a new phase in their relations.

Among the measures adopted, the reopening of the land borders and the reestablishment of maritime connections and the operation

Crossing the Strait

were agreed upon .

After this turn, materialized in the agreement with which Sánchez returned from

Rabat

, the Polisario Front decided to suspend relations with the Government of our country as a sign of rejection and as proof of a malaise that did not prevent several Polisario representatives from meeting with the dome of IU this Thursday, among whom is the Minister of Consumption.

"Tactical Games"

The change in the Government's position on Western Sahara, with which Spain's historic neutrality for 46 years on its former colony was broken, was criticized from the outset by all the parliamentary groups, including United We Can, which assured that Pedro Sánchez had made this decision "unilaterally" and breaking the commitments of the coalition agreement that brought him to La Moncloa.

However, the appearances of Sánchez himself and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, in Congress, as well as the need to carry out the decree of measures to deal with the war, ended up leaving this issue in the background, which generated a unprecedented tension in the heart of the Council of Ministers.

But the crisis is still open and the commitment of United We Can with the Saharawi people, intact.

This is confirmed by Alberto Garzón, who assures that the

purples

do not give in to "tactical games and strategies for supposed geopolitical purposes", in reference to the interests that have moved the president to adopt this position, which the minority member works to "redirect".
