Soldattorpet in Västra Ekeby was a home for the soldiers during the times of the subdivision, ie the military organizational system that existed before when the farms merged and paid the soldiers.

- We moved here in 1973, my wife and I.

She has passed away and since 2011 I own it myself, says Sören Lantz.

The original frame remains

The use of the cottage is economical but it is possible to live in it, even if electricity and water are not available.

- We believe that this log house has existed since the middle of the 18th century and surely many of the things have been replaced and renovated.

But the frame is original, says Sören Lantz.

Sent to Pomerania

Several years ago, he did a little research on the soldiers who lived in the croft known as Blenkhem.

- We found a soldier who enlisted in 1754 who was sent to Pomerania in Germany and who we believe survived and came back, says Sören Lantz.

Below the croft there is a sign with short facts about it.

It says, among other things, that the soldiers' families were allowed to stay in the croft when they were out at war.

But if they died in the war, the families had to move out and a new soldier took their place.

In the clip, you get to follow into the soldier's croft and hear more about its history.
