The attacks on the Belarusian railway network began "almost immediately" after the invasion at the end of February, says Jakob Hedenskog.

The first was a cyber attack on the Belarusian railway company that was carried out three days after the war broke out.

Since then, it has continued.

The cyber attacks are carried out by a group of hackers, mostly in exile, who call themselves the "cyber partisans".

The signal systems have been postponed, and also the ticket booking, which has led to major delays and queues at stations around the country.

In addition to the hacker attacks, individual railway workers in Belarus have carried out minor attacks locally.

- This means a great risk for those people.

Many have been arrested and the Ministry of the Interior classifies the attacks as terrorist crimes, which can mean very long prison sentences, says Jakob Hedenskog.

May have affected in Kyiv

According to Franak Viačorka, an employee of the staff of the Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tichanovskaya, the railway attacks have greatly affected Russian forces.

"We believe that Russia did not occupy Kyiv because of what we did.

They were not as safe in Belarus as they first thought, "he wrote on Twitter.

Jakob Hedenskog is in the same line:

- It may have contributed to Russia changing its goals and concentrating on eastern Ukraine, he says.
