Éric Zemmour keeps making foot calls, but the door to the National Rally remains closed.

As recently as the afternoon of Wednesday April 27, the former presidential candidate announced on Twitter that his party, Reconquête!, would not present a candidate in the legislative elections against Marine Le Pen, Éric Ciotti and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan.

“National unity in action,” he added as a comment.

Since Emmanuel Macron's victory in the presidential election on Sunday evening, the former columnist has been tweeting in favor of a far-right coalition in view of the June 12 and 19 elections.

On Monday, he said that the "national union" he calls for would come out on top in 246 constituencies, against only 105 constituencies for the same parties without a union.

He also pointed out that 70% of RN voters, according to an Ipsos poll, want union.

He finally published a press release from the vice-presidents of his party - the former RN Marion Maréchal and Nicolas Bay, and the former LR Guillaume Peltier - proposing a meeting with the RN "in order to form an electoral coalition for the legislative elections".

We will not present a candidate against Marine Le Pen, Éric Ciotti and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan.

Problem: only Éric Zemmour wants the union of the far right in view of the legislative elections, when Marine Le Pen on the contrary wants to establish the supremacy of her party.

Engaging in a discussion with the "traitors" of the RN, as they are nicknamed internally, seems impossible.

Their departure from the movement, "it's a one-way trip" and zero agreement in the legislative elections, had stunned Marine Le Pen.

"Jean-Marie Le Pen said: there is no number 2 in the Front National. There is a leader and this leader will do everything to crush the others. Bruno Mégret paid the price in 1998-1999. Éric Zemmour wanted to play the new leader of the new far right. He will in turn bear the brunt of it in the coming weeks", judges Erwan Lecœur, political scientist specializing in the far right, on France 24.

The one who obtained 7.07% of the vote in the first round of the presidential election has indeed the fault of having seen himself a little too handsome and of having spent a good part of the campaign denigrating Marine Le Pen.

Including on the evening of the second round, choosing to begin his speech by insisting heavily on the defeat of the RN candidate.

"This is the eighth time that defeat has struck the name of Le Pen", thus asserted Éric Zemmour, before calling for union.

“A marriage request with finesse”, quipped the next day the acting president of the RN, Jordan Bardella.

It has been too long since those who passionately love France have been defeated.

I did what I could to avoid this result.

The vocation of the RN is "not to help a movement that is hostile to us"

“Many voters were deceived by Éric Zemmour, who made them believe in the hidden vote. Éric Zemmour’s goal, it was clear, was to kill the National Rally and replace Marine Le Pen. decided otherwise," one of the RN's spokespersons, Laurent Jacobelli, told France Culture on Wednesday, arguing that the party's vocation is "not to help a movement that is hostile to us."

Despite a rather good financial situation and 122,000 members for his party, the legislative campaign therefore promises to be difficult for Éric Zemmour, who has still not decided the question of his own candidacy, just like Marion Maréchal who is reluctant to run. in Carpentras, in the Vaucluse.

On the strength of her presidential progression of nearly eight points compared to 2017, Marine Le Pen (41.45% in the second round) should do everything to reduce Reconquest to nothing.

The other RN spokesperson, Sébastien Chenu, notably indicated that an RN candidate would be presented against Éric Zemmour in the event that the latter decides to run for the legislative elections.

“Me, I agree that we work with Reconquest deputies if Éric Zemmour manages to get some elected, but they have a difference of approach. We are not for the union of the rights, we want the union of patriots. And that goes beyond the right and the left because we no longer believe in that, "said Sébastien Chenu on LCI Monday evening.

“I see no interest in Marine Le Pen in letting Éric Zemmour and Marion Maréchal survive, analyzes Erwan Lecœur on France 24. Reconquest will only be able to obtain a handful of deputies in the south-east of France when Marine Le Pen can hope for around fifty elected officials and, for the first time without proportional representation, have a substantial group in the National Assembly.

The party notably calculated that Marine Le Pen had come out on top in 159 presidential constituencies.

It is also first in 23 metropolitan departments, instead of two in 2017. However, the RN being massively indebted, obtaining the greatest possible number of votes in the legislative and deputies elections is a financial necessity.

Because this election will determine the financing of political parties for the next five years.

For the parties obtaining 1% of the votes in at least 50 constituencies, each vote will thus bring in 1.42 euros per year, and each deputy 37,280 euros per year.
