Dr. Anthony Fauci, an American infectious disease authority, diagnosed that the United States is now out of the Corona pandemic.

The European Commission has also estimated that 60-80% of the European population is infected with the coronavirus, and it is expected that they will escape the emergency phase.

Correspondent Yunsoo Kim in Washington reports.

Dr. Fauci, who has been leading the U.S. coronavirus crisis since the outbreak of COVID-19, said the pandemic is over.

The average number of new infections per day in the United States, which once soared to 1 million, has recently been managed at tens of thousands, he explained, explaining that the spread is at a low level.

[Pouch / Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases: This country is definitely out of the pandemic.

In other words, right now, there are 900,000 new confirmed cases a day.]

Although Corona 19 will not be eradicated, it was expected that it would be manageable by getting a vaccine every year.

In the United States, the number of confirmed cases is increasing again as BA.2, which is more contagious than Omicron, has recently become the dominant species, but it is not as explosive as in the case of Omicron.

In particular, the average number of hospitalizations or deaths per day is similar to last summer, when it was the lowest since the pandemic began.

Dr Fauci explained, however, that the pandemic is still going on if you zoom in on the global situation.

According to the European Union, 60% to 80% of the population in the region appears to be infected with COVID-19.

Despite the diagnosis that the pandemic is over, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has predicted that the number of new hospitalizations a day could increase up to four times over the next four weeks, suggesting that a glimmer of resurgence remains.
