In Åredalen, there is a strong pressure on exploitation, at the same time as the municipality wants the resident population to be able to grow in the valley.

Therefore, the in-depth overview plan has been developed, which extends until 2035.

Then Åre municipality wants to be able to live 7,000 permanent residents in Åredalen and there are another 12,000 tourist beds.

Today there are about 4300 permanent residents in the valley and there are about 42,000 tourist beds.

At the same time, there are a number of factors that must be taken into account.

  • Climate change will have an impact on the hospitality industry but also on the environment.

Here, future construction must take into account, among other things, more extreme weather.

In large parts of Åredalen, there is an increased risk of landslides and avalanches due to the ground conditions.

Increased amounts of precipitation hamper that risk.

  • The exploitation pressure can lead to conflicts between the hospitality industry and other industries and these must be minimized.

How should reindeer husbandry, agriculture and forestry, nature values and outdoor life be able to exist at the same time as more housing, tourist accommodation and other infrastructure are built are some of the things that the master plan addresses.

  • Water and sewage supply - A further expansion of both permanent residents and tourists in Åredalen places demands on a functioning water and sewage supply.

There have been occasional major problems in the past.

The planned area extends from Staabron in the west to Såå in the east.
