The speaker of the Moldovan parliament, Igor Grosu, said this on the air of the N4 TV channel.

"Discussions have begun between us and Gazprom - we want the gas supply contract to continue," TASS quoted him as saying.

According to him, the Moldovan authorities provided the Russian side with an explanation that it was not possible to find a company to audit the debt for gas because of the situation in Ukraine.

Earlier, the head of Moldovagaz, Vadim Cheban, said that the Moldovan side had applied to the Russian company Gazprom with a request to extend the terms of the debt audit.

On April 20, Moldovan Minister of Infrastructure Andrei Spinu said that the country would be ready to buy gas on the international market if Gazprom stopped deliveries from May 1.
