Following the agreement between the Japanese and Russian governments on salmon and trout fishing in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hokkaido, the Habomai fishing port in Nemuro City is preparing for fishing early next month.

Since most of the salmon and trout fishing carried out in Japan's exclusive economic zone off the coast of Hokkaido is born in Russian rivers, operating conditions such as catch are decided every year through negotiations between the governments of Japan and Russia. ..

Although the start of negotiations was significantly delayed from the usual year due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it was officially agreed on the 25th that the catch will be the same as last year.

In response to this, salmon and trout fishing is expected to start at the beginning of next month, which is the peak season, and at the Habomai fishing port in Nemuro City, which is the base of fishing, the crew of fishing boats and employees of shipbuilding companies have been landing. I was working on dropping a fishing boat to the harbor.

A total of 19 boats from the coast of Hokkaido, including 8 boats belonging to the Habomai Fisheries Cooperative, are scheduled to start fishing this season, and we are planning to prepare for the future by loading nets on the boats.

Mitsuo Akimori, a shipbuilding company who was involved in the work, said, "I feel that the work has finally begun. I hope that it will be a big catch because I can start fishing."
