- This is proof that our vehicle and transport program is of a high quality and can offer students the skills that the transport industry demands, says Linda Jonsson who is the principal at Bäckadalsgymnasiet.

The transport industry is screaming for staff.

According to calculations from Transportföretagen, the industry would need to hire 5,000 drivers annually.

In addition, an estimated 6,800 people will be missing from the workshops within the next three years.

Schools must keep up with technological development

At the same time, technological development on the transport side is progressing rapidly, with, among other things, new fuels and systems, which requires schools to keep up with developments.

That is why Transportföretagen is investing in a certification of the schools.

- The motor industry changes so quickly when you switch from old to new technology, says Håkan Filipsson who is press officer at Transportföretagen.

Two schools did not meet the requirements

The requirements placed on schools that are to receive the certification include that the vocational teachers develop competence to a sufficient extent, that vehicles and technology are appropriate and that they cooperate to a large extent with the transport industry to benefit the supply of competence.

- The students need more knowledge about electrification and connection, says Håkan Filipsson, who adds that the requirements placed on the schools to be certified are extensive.

Of the four schools that have applied, two are not considered to meet the requirements so far.

In addition to Bäckadalsgymnasiet, Edströmska gymnasiet in Västerås has been certified.

In the clip below, you hear that more and more girls are choosing to study to be professional drivers.
