A 55-year-old mother and her 20-year-old daughter were hit by a train and died in Linden in the Gießen district when trying to cross the tracks.

The mother and her two daughters, aged 20 and 19, wanted to catch a train on a different platform at the Große-Linden train station on Tuesday evening and therefore illegally crossed the tracks, a police spokesman said on Wednesday morning.

A regional train hit the two women at a speed of around 160 kilometers per hour.

The 19-year-old daughter survived.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing

According to the police, the older daughter should have noticed the approaching regional train.

She still tried to withdraw her mother.

However, both women were then hit by the train and fatally injured.

The further investigations into the course of the accident continued.

The 19-year-old daughter and some passengers on the train suffered a shock after the fatal accident and needed medical treatment.

According to the police, the train was passing through Treysa in the direction of Frankfurt.

The section between Grossen-Linden and Langgöns was closed in both directions for several hours after the accident.
