A new flood detection system is being installed in Quimperlé (Finistère).

It will make it possible to warn the population in the event of overflow of the Laïta, reports Le Télégramme.

Equipped with two radars, the new system was designed in collaboration with the Regional Directorate for the Environment (Dreal).

It is intended to replace the piezometer installed so far in the town.

Flood barriers dismantled

"It is much more reliable and its location is not in an area of water turbulence like the previous one", explains Olivier Caillibot, head of flood risk prevention in the town.

The new speed camera is also linked to the Vigicrues website and application, as well as to the city's digital billboard.

In the meantime, the anti-flood barriers have been dismantled for the summer in Quimperlé.

They will be put back in place for the winter, which is more conducive to overflows.

The 2021-2022 winter was however rather calm for Breton residents: only two yellow alerts were issued over the period.

Nothing to do with the major flood that occurred during the winter of 2013-2014.
