After the poisoning of three people with carbon monoxide in July 2020, the owner of a chalet in Saint-Jean-d'Arves (Savoie) was sentenced to eight months in prison suspended by the correctional court of Albertville this friday.

The day before the accident, the three victims had been installed by the defendant in a small, insufficiently ventilated body of water, says

A non-compliant device

During the night, a gas leak had occurred via the water heater, purchased at a low price on the Internet and not certified by the European standard.

Designed to be powered by urban gas, the device had nevertheless been connected to a butane gas cylinder.

Awakened in the middle of the night, one of the victims had warned the other two.

Two young shepherdesses had been transported by helicopter to the hospital.

Two years after the tragedy, they explained that they were still suffering from the neurological consequences of the poisoning.

Prosecuted for “unintentional injuries”, the owner of the premises denied any responsibility.

In addition to his sentence, he was fined 3,000 euros.
