Song Young-gil, former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who took on the challenge of mayor of Seoul in the local elections in June, urged the party leadership on the 26th, "Please adjust and decide the future schedule so that a candidate for Seoul mayor can be quickly elected."

In a post on Facebook on the same day, Song said, "Rep. Park Jumin has resigned as a candidate for the mayor of Seoul. I offer my deepest condolences."

Initially, the Democratic Party’s primary for Seoul mayor was scheduled to be a three-way battle between Song, Rep. Park, and Kim Jin-ae, but Rep. Park, a member of the Judiciary Committee and chair of the 1st Subcommittee of the Bill Review, mentioned the Judiciary Committee schedule on this day and said, “No matter how hard I struggle. Even if I try, I don't think I'm in a situation where I can hold an election."

In the beginning, the Democratic Party announced its policy to confirm the candidates on the 29th after holding the first primary from today to the 27th and the second primary from the 28th to the 29th on the premise of a three-way battle.

However, as Rep. Park resigns mid-term, the final candidate is expected to be decided on the 27th.

In response to Park's abandonment of the primary, Song said, "If the power of the people had not broken the arbitration plan for the (prosecution reform) of the National Assembly Speaker, we would have been able to discuss and compete on the vision for Seoul administration together in the primary, but it is regrettable."

She continued, "We will work together to achieve Seoul's vision of Seoul to face the challenges and reform spirit of Rep. Park, who is always challenging," she said.
