The United States expressed concern over the possibility of a preemptive nuclear strike by General Secretary Kim Jong-un in his speech at the parade to mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the anti-Japanese guerrillas, but re-emphasized the existing position of a diplomatic solution and maintaining sanctions against North Korea.

State Department spokeswoman Ned Price said North Korea's nuclear program poses a major threat to international peace and that the United States is committed to achieving North Korea's goal of denuclearization.

At the same time, the United States reaffirmed its existing position that it is open to diplomacy and dialogue, saying it has no hostile intentions toward North Korea.
