The Hessian state association of the German Association of Civil Servants is calling for the resignation of Frankfurt Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD).

The association, which represents the interests of public sector employees, announced that the allegations of taking advantage were becoming less and less dignified.

The civil servants' association criticizes the fact that the report on a search warrant by the public prosecutor's office for Feldmann's office was followed by the statement that it was not a search, so that the judiciary felt compelled to make a correction.

"The behavior of the mayor is not only causing enormous damage to the city of Frankfurt," said Heini Schmitt, chairman of the civil servants' association.

"At the same time, it also massively damages the reputation of public administrations and authorities." They wondered what was going on in an administration when even the top boss resorted to such means.

Colleagues in the offices felt the displeasure.

In addition to a quick, complete and transparent legal processing of the case, it is important that Feldmann sends a corresponding signal, according to Schmitt.

"It is his right to remain silent or to deny the allegations.

But staying in office is unacceptable given the overall circumstances.” The damage to the city is already enormous and will increase with each additional day in office.

It is "time to clear the way so that the administration of the largest city in Hesse can concentrate on the pressing issues again".

CDU demands statement from Faeser

The Secretary General of the CDU Hessen, Manfred Pentz, stated that allegations of corruption against Feldmann had been around for a long time.

"All the worse that the SPD in Hesse did not comment on this.

People expect state chairwoman Nancy Faeser to finally take a stand on her fellow party member.”

As reported, the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office has filed charges on suspicion of accepting an advantage because Feldmann's wife, who is now separated from him as head of a day-care center run by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO), received a salary in excess of the collective bargaining agreement "without any objective reason".

In addition, the AWO is said to have supported his mayor election campaign in 2018 by raising donations.
