"There is no double membership, there will never be" and "we cannot be Les Républicains and the presidential majority", hammered the president of the party Christian Jacob after a strategic council .

During this meeting, a motion was adopted to affirm: "our political family carries its own voice" of an "independent and popular right which must exist by itself".

"I believe that the parties of government must work together", affirmed Mr. Juvin on his arrival at the headquarters of LR.

Mr. Abad, who did not speak, is at the center of speculation about cooperation with Macron, which has increased tenfold since the revelation of a recent meeting with Thierry Solère, the ex-LR who became an adviser to Emmanuel Macron.

But the boss of LR warned: "the commitment which will be signed by all our candidates is to sit in a group which is completely independent".

The party, which totaled only 4.8% of the votes in the first round of the presidential election, reiterated its position "neither fungible in macronism, nor in lepenism" adopted after the first round.

LR will remain "force of proposal", and "if reforms go in the right direction, our parliamentary group will be able to take its responsibilities and vote for them", added Mr. Jacob.

But "if they don't go, we will be in opposition".

LR will launch its legislative campaign on Saturday May 7 "with a large gathering of the National Council, with our centrist and UDI allies and all our candidates", added Mr. Jacob.
