International Atomic Energy Agency Secretary-General Rafael Grossi, who visited the site on the 36th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion, said, "The radiation levels in Chernobyl are higher than normal."

He said that the Russian occupation of Chernobyl was really dangerous, and that it was still not normal when the Russian troops left.

It was emphasized again and again that during the weeks of Russian occupation, the radiation dose near Chernobyl was absolutely abnormal and very, very dangerous.

The Chernobyl nuclear power plant suffered the worst nuclear accident in history in April 1986, and although all reactors are now shut down, spent nuclear fuel is stored in a cooling facility.

After the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, Russian forces captured the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on the way to the capital Kiiu, but withdrew earlier this month.

At that time, the Russian military dug trenches in the 'Red Forest', an access-restricted area near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

The hourly radiation dose at the surface here is more than 5,000 times the world average.
