"This honor is both an encouragement and a spur to me," said Ge Junbo.

On December 17, 2021, the selection and commendation conference for the contributions of various democratic parties, federations of industry and commerce, and persons without party affiliation to the building of a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way was held in Beijing.

This "medical benevolence" has been buried in his heart since he was a child.

At the age of 11, Ge Junbo injured his left arm while riding a bicycle, and an old Chinese doctor in his hometown helped him heal it.

Since then, he has dreamed of "curing diseases for the world" in his heart. With this dream, he was admitted to Qingdao Medical College and eagerly learned medical knowledge.

With the rapid development of China's medical industry, the importance of cardiovascular disease in China has become increasingly prominent.

In 1990, Ge Junbo went to the University of Mainz in Germany to study interventional diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease.

He worked hard on the basic skills of interventional therapy and discovered the "half-moon phenomenon" and "fingertip phenomenon" specific to myocardial bridges, as well as drug treatment methods for myocardial bridges. These achievements have been incorporated into the international classic cardiovascular disease textbooks, and he is also regarded as an international champion. "Pioneer" in the diagnosis of pulse-myocardial bridge ultrasound.

In Ge Junbo's view, as the beneficiaries of reform and opening up, his generation has enjoyed the fruits of reform and opening up, and has also won the respect of the society. They should do their best to give back to the society.

He has always been like this...

While investing a lot of energy in clinical, scientific research, teaching, innovation and other fields, Ge Junbo responded to the national call to actively participate in the medical precision poverty alleviation work, and regularly provided free training courses for the new progress of cardiovascular medicine in Shanghai and Yunnan through lectures, ward rounds, and surgical guidance. Train and teach more than 1,000 doctors in poverty-stricken areas.

In 2017, Zhongshan Hospital officially launched the "Heart and Liver Baby" charity relief activity. Many academicians, including Ge Junbo, participated with all their might, and have successfully rescued 46 children with congenital heart disease and 14 patients with liver disease from poor families in Yunnan and Tibet. patient.

"For children living in highland areas, heart disease can seriously affect their daily life. After this operation, they can live like normal children and grow up healthily as 'flowers' blooming in highland areas." Ge Junbo explained that after early detection and precise treatment of many diseases, patients can live like normal people.

To successfully treat such a patient is to help the entire family.

Why are you committed to poverty alleviation?

Ge Junbo said that as a front-line clinician, he has to deal with many patients from relatively remote areas every day, many of which are incurable diseases. When they go to big cities and hospitals to seek medical treatment, they are afraid of losing the money for medical treatment on the way. , so he sewed the money onto his underwear.

"Whenever I see them with food, they come all the way to Shanghai to seek medical treatment, take off the thread, and take out the money with body temperature to pay the fee. As a doctor, my heart will always be filled with waves, and I tell myself: We must do something for them." Ge Junbo sighed.

Since then, Ge Junbo has explored to bring more good news to patients through continuous medical innovation.

Aiming at the key link of fatal stent thrombosis, he pioneered "degradable coated stent" and "completely biodegradable stent" in China, and the international original "As2O3 new drug stent", which reduced the incidence of late stent thrombosis from 1.2%- 1.9% dropped to 0.34%, significantly reducing medical costs and bleeding risk.

Breaking the forbidden area of traditional surgery, he took the lead in carrying out "percutaneous mitral valve clamping" in China, and pioneered "transapical mitral valve clamping" and the minimally invasive device ValveClamp, which significantly shortened the operation time by about 30% It brings hope to those who are old and frail, with poor heart function, and who cannot tolerate surgery and cannot receive effective treatment. This achievement won the Best Innovation Award of the International Conference on Cardiovascular Innovation (ICI) in 2018.

Looking back on the road to poverty alleviation, Ge Junbo said: "We not only give full play to the strengths of doctors, try our best to go to more places and help more patients, but also hope to benefit more people through innovation, and there are still many things waiting for us to do in the future.
