Since the beginning of April, the trend has been clear in Östergötland - fewer and fewer need care for covid-19.

On April 7, a total of 46 patients were treated with the infection throughout Östergötland, of which 3 within iva.

Since then, the number of patients has gradually decreased.

Today, April 25, 27 patients are cared for at the county's hospital - none of whom need IVA care.

- We still have patients who come in because of covid-19, but it is mainly people who have a weakened immune system, are elderly or who are unvaccinated.

The three groups can still get more serious illness, says Britt Åkerlind who is an infection control doctor at Region Östergötland.

"Slow in the vaccination track"

In Östergötland, a total of 356,967 Östergötlanders have now taken two doses of the vaccine against covid-19.

261 291 have taken the third dose.

Vaccine coverage is still lower in the younger age groups.

- It is understandable that those who are younger are less likely to get vaccinated.

They feel young and strong, but they too can become seriously ill.

Covid-19 is unpredictable in that way, so the best thing you can do is accept offers of these three doses, says Britt Åkerlind.

New peak in May

During the day, the public health authority announced that they believe in a new peak of infection in mid-May.

- We have not seen it yet, but given that it is now quite slow in the vaccination track, we must be prepared.

There are many who still have not taken their first dose and many who have gone a long time without the refill dose, says Britt Åkerlind.
