There is a new building spirit in Gällivare when new residential areas are created due to the mining in Malmberget and people have to move.

One of the areas is Repisvaara, an area close to the city, which is located between Gällivare center and Dundret.

An area that a few years ago was a cottage area with about 30 cottages.

"Has almost reached the goal"

The Gällivare City Council adopted a development plan for the Repisvaara cottage area in 2013. According to the plan, the area would contain approximately 1,000 homes with 2,000 occupants.

- We have almost reached the goal.

Today, nine years later, there are 900 homes in the area and 1,750 people have moved here and there are still vacant plots, says Dan Johansson, acting.

Head of Administration, Social and Technology Administration in Gällivare.

The municipality has bought more land

And now there are plans to expand the area.

Gällivare municipality has bought 34 hectares of land called Harrträsk at the foot of Dundret.

- The new Harrträsk area at the foot of Dundret will be a mix of detached houses and apartment buildings and there will be ski-in-ski-out at Dundret's ski resort.

In total, the Repisvaara area will be just over 100 hectares - and in ten years, the hope is that almost 3,000 people will live in the area and become one of the largest residential areas in Gällivare.
