Macron in the lead in Aix and Marseille, Marine Le Pen on the rise

• In the metropolis of Aix-Marseille, Marine Le Pen is making progress in several towns in the hinterland and around the Etang de Berre.

• The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, came out on top in several major cities, including Aix-en-Provence and Marseille.

The National Rally fills up

For this second round of the presidential election, Marine Le Pen comes first in many “peripheral” municipalities, whether to the west or east of Marseille.

In the municipalities around the Etang de Berre, the progress of the candidate of the National Rally is particularly important.

Thus, in Fos-sur-Mer, Marine Le Pen recorded a score of 68.90%, eight points more than in 2017, where Marine Le Pen had already finished in the lead.

In La Ciotat, where Emmanuel Macron had won 55.29% of the vote in 2017, the candidate of the National Rally obtained the majority, with 51.79% of the vote.

In the village of Roquevaire, 53.01% of voters voted for Marine Le Pen, an increase of nine points in five years.

Only Cassis and Gémenos are resisting this “navy blue” wave which is sweeping over this part of the metropolis, with 57.23% and 52.20% respectively for Emmanuel Macron.

“Voters are noticing the rise in prices, the massive immigration arriving in their towns,” says Eléonore Bez,

deputy departmental delegate of the Bouches-du-Rhône federation of the National Rally.

They saw the example of Marseille, and on the ground, many told me that what they wanted was change.

And they were able to see that Marine Le Pen's project was a viable one.

Macron saves the day with Aix and Marseille

Once is not custom, the country of Aix turns out to be a macronist land on which the president can count to fill up with votes.

In the small village of Saint-Marc-Jaumegarde, at the gates of Aix-en-Provence, Emmanuel Macron won 75.31% of voters.

In Aix, where he had already finished in the lead in the first round, Emmanuel Macron obtained the score of 67.40% of the vote, enough to delight the local LREM deputy.

In 2017, in fact, Emmanuel Macron had obtained 73.59% of the votes in Aix, a drop of more than six points in five years.

In Salon-de-Provence, the President of the Republic narrowly won, with 50.48% of the vote, where, in 2017, the victory had been clearer, with 55.44% of the vote.

In Marseille, which had placed Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the lead in the first round, the President of the Republic convinced 59.84% of the voters.

Far from the usual North-South electoral divide of the second city of France, the President of the Republic comes first in all the districts of the city, except in the East, in the 10th and 11th.

The abstention is confirmed

In mainland France, abstention continues to grow at a breakneck pace, in places far exceeding the national average, which is already very high.

An abstention which seems to coincide with the vote for Jean-Luc Mélenchon, suggesting that these voters refused to choose after seeing their favorite fail to access the second round of the presidential election.

In the first arrondissement of Marseille, which elected the leader of LFI deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône in 2017, 40% of voters shunned the ballot box.

Ditto, in Port-de-Bouc, where the leader of LFI came first in the first round with 32.51% of the vote, the abstention amounted to 37.62%.

"We are not going to say that everything is great and that our victory is triumphant, puts Jean-Pierre Serrus, mayor of La Roque-d'Anthéron and figure of LREM in the Bouches-du-Rhône, into perspective.

We have lucid victory.

There was abstention and we have to hear it.

I believe that, behind the abstention, or behind part of the vote of rejection and revolt, there are signals of an inability of the political class to involve the population with it.

Today, everyone must feel concerned by democracy.

The French are waiting for solutions.
