• Marine Le Pen totaled 35.22% of the votes in the second round in the Pays-de-la-Loire region.

  • That's six points below his national tally.

  • In Sarthe, more than one in two municipalities still chose Marine Le Pen.

As in 2017, and as in the first round, it was in the west of France that Marine Le Pen achieved her worst scores on Sunday evening.

Territory traditionally little acquired by the far right, the Pays-de-la-Loire region voted 35.22% in favor of the candidate of the National Rally, six points below its result for the whole of France (41.46%).

Marine Le Pen thus underperforms in four out of five departments in the region, including Loire-Atlantique where the RN obtains one of its worst French departmental scores (30.8%).

The only anomaly, the Sarthe, where Marine Le Pen made a significant breakthrough.

Admittedly, the department preferred Emmanuel Macron, but nearly 44.6% of the Sarthois votes, and more than one in two municipalities, went to the candidate on Sunday evening.

This is much more than in the first round (27.68%), including in votes (42,400 additional ballots), including if we add the votes granted to Eric Zemmour and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan (20,000 additional ballots) .

It is also eight points more than the 36.67% of the second round 2017.

Some municipalities above 70%

Unsurprisingly, it is in rural Sarthe and sparsely populated municipalities that Marine Le Pen weighed the most.

For example in Meurcé (71.9%), in Aulneaux (71.4%), in La Chapelle-aux-choux (70%), in Brionne-les-Sables (64.3%), in Lavaré (64% ), in Savigné-sous-Le-Lude (61.2%) or even in larger municipalities such as Connéré (55.3%) or Malicorne-sur-Sarthe (53.9%).

The main cities, Le Mans, La Flèche, Sablé and Allonnes, have chosen Emmanuel Macron.
