There really was no match in the second round of the presidential election in Nantes.

In a city that traditionally votes on the left, Emmanuel Macron (LREM) won 81.15% of the vote on Sunday, one of his highest scores among major French cities with Paris and Rennes.

His opponent Marine Le Pen (RN) totaled 18.85% of the vote.

The outgoing president, however, obtained a result five points lower than that of the 2017 presidential election. The abstention rate was 28.84%, slightly higher than the national average (28.01%) and higher than five years ago (25%).

In the first round, Nantes had placed Jean-Luc Mélenchon (33%) in the lead ahead of Emmanuel Macron (29%).

Marine Le Pen had collected only 8% of the votes.

Only big scores in the rest of the metropolis

In the other major cities of the Nantes metropolitan area, Emmanuel Macron also obtains river scores: 78.5% in Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire, 78.3% in Orvault, 77.8% in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, 77.2% in Rezé, 76.8% in Carquefou, 76.6% in Vertou, 75.1% in Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire, 75% in Saint-Herblain or 70.3% in Bouguenais.

In the rest of the Nantes conurbation, Marine Le Pen produces its highest scores, which however remain below its national result.

All second round results

In the rest of Loire-Atlantique, Emmanuel Macron is also clearly in the lead in Saint-Nazaire (67.9%), La Baule (68%), Ancenis (71%), Clisson (76%) and Chateaubriant (65%).

Small demonstration in the city center

“I welcome the election of Emmanuel Macron as President of the Republic.

He must

now take the measure of the social and democratic fractures which cross our country and respond to the strong mistrust and anger which are expressed ”, reacted Sunday evening Johanna Rolland, PS mayor of Nantes.

In the middle of the evening, a procession of around 400 to 500 demonstrators marched through the streets of downtown Nantes behind a banner marked "Need for revolution".
