The third public prosecutor, who is being investigated in connection with the corruption scandal at the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office, is to be suspended.

The public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt, which is investigating the case, communicated this when asked.

The accused, against whom there is an initial suspicion of aiding and abetting infidelity, is currently also working for the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office, it said.

According to information from the FAZ, he was seconded to the Attorney General's Office in 2018 and worked there at the "Central Office for Combating Property Crimes and Corruption in the Healthcare System", which was headed by the main suspect, Chief Public Prosecutor Alexander B.

During this time he is said to have participated in a single procedure, from which the suspicion and the subsequent investigations arose.

In addition, another public prosecutor, who has already been suspended, is being investigated on suspicion of aiding and abetting infidelity.

This became known in December.

According to reports, his case is also about individual procedures in which orders for expert opinions were awarded - in terms of number and allegations, however, this cannot be compared with what the main suspect Alexander B. is accused of, it said legal circles.

system of self-enrichment

The authority did not provide any information on Monday as to whether the public prosecutor, who was suspended in December, is also being investigated on suspicion of bribery, nor whether there is now no longer just initial suspicion, but sufficient suspicion.

The former is the case if there are indications that a criminal offense has been committed and an investigation is initiated on this basis.

For the second stage, based on a provisional assessment of the offence, a conviction must be more likely than an acquittal.

The question remains open as to whether the public prosecutor who was suspended in December and who is now accused had knowledge of the system of self-enrichment that Alexander B. had apparently built up over the years.

In 2005, he is said to have persuaded an acquaintance to set up a company that prepared reports for the judiciary and to have given this company large-scale orders in order to make some money.

According to the public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt, these practices alone caused damage of 558,000 euros to the state of Hesse in the non-statute-barred period between August 2015 and July 2020.

In view of the ongoing investigations and evaluations, however, the amount of the total damage cannot yet be finally quantified, it was said at the beginning of February.
