As Shanghai, China has entered the fifth week of lockdown due to the corona virus, the spread is continuing in the capital Beijing as well.

Some areas have virtually entered a lockdown, and Beijingers are lining up long lines at supermarkets to stock up on groceries, saying they may not be like Shanghai.

This is Beijing Correspondent Ji-Sung Kim.

The shelves of large supermarkets in downtown Beijing are empty.

There was a long line in front of the checkout counter, and a long queue to buy groceries and daily necessities stretched out of the mart.

[Beijing citizen: Look at the supermarket in Beijing.

No vegetables, no eggs.]

Since the 22nd, 70 people infected with Corona 19 and 2,100 close contacts have come out in Beijing.

Chaoyang-gu, where there are a lot of infected people, decided to conduct PCR tests three times every two days from today (25th) on all 3.5 million residents.

Chaoyang District has set some areas as control zones and has effectively entered into a lockdown.

Beijing authorities said most of the rest of the area was low-risk, but citizens' hoarding continued.

Watching the Shanghai lockdown has fueled distrust of the authorities.

Earlier, when the number of new infections reached about 2,000, Shanghai made a decision to block the city without notice, and divided the city into east and west and said that it would blockade only for four days, but it is entering the fifth week.

Anxiety among Koreans living in Beijing, which is estimated at 30,000, is also growing.

[Gyeongseon Hwang / Korean Residents in Beijing: Because we do not know when the blockade will happen, because once we do not know if it will be 2 weeks or 3 weeks.

I don't know if there will be a lockdown like Shanghai...

.]

Since the Chinese authorities are in the position of deciding whether to expand the containment area based on the PCR test results, the possibility of a blockade of the entire Beijing cannot be ruled out.
