• Emmanuel Macron was placed in the lead in Nice with 55.39% of the votes cast.

  • Only seven other municipalities in the Nice metropolis have placed the candidate of La République en Marche ahead of Marine Le Pen.

  • The candidate of the National Rally sometimes obtained nearly 70% of the votes cast.

"Thank you to each and every one of you for having allowed Nice to contribute so largely to the victory of Emmanuel Macron", exclaimed Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, ex-LR passed in the presidential camp, Sunday evening after the results of the second round of the presidential election.

With 55.39% of the votes cast, the candidate of La République en Marche actually came first in the fifth largest city in France.

But this is five points less compared to the results of 2017, where he won 60.14% of the vote.

The capital of the Côte d'Azur is also one of the only municipalities in its metropolis to have chosen the president.

Tight results in municipalities where Emmanuel Macron is in the lead

Of the 51 municipalities that make up the Nice-Côte-d'Azur metropolis, seven voted in the majority for Emmanuel Macron.

And the results are pretty tight.

On the coast, it comes first with 51.11% of the votes cast in Eze and with 50.90% in Villefranche-sur-Mer.

In the high country, in Isola, 50.98% of the votes are for the candidate of La République en Marche.

In no municipality of the Nice metropolis, it clearly imposes itself against the far-right party.

Its highest score is in Roure, where 69.54% of the 174 registered voters voted 56.90% for LREM.

In 2017, this village voted with a slight majority for Marine Le Pen (50.46%).

This year, 43.1% of the votes are in favour.

But the candidate of the National Rally largely wins in several other municipalities.

As in Lantosque, where 76.35% of the 1,349 registered voters expressed themselves and where she obtained 70.69% of the votes.

In Utelle (67.50%) and Levens (65.34%), Marine Le Pen won more than 65% of the votes.

Other cities held by mayors close to Christian Estrosi have placed it in the lead.

This is the case of Cagnes-sur-Mer where it collects 51.66% of the 25,468 people who turned out at the polls.

Abstention progresses

As for the abstention rate, it has increased in five years.

In Nice, it is 32.14% this year.

These are almost three additional points compared to the first round (29.7%).

In 2017, in the second round of the presidential election, 28.5% of registered voters abstained and 23.6% in the first round.

For the mayor of Nice, these results, like that of "the extremes" as well as "the anger heard during this campaign require obtaining rapid results", he declared, affirming that "the time for overcoming [was ] came ".

He added: "If we do not fundamentally change the way of governing, in order to adapt it to new challenges and to recreate the bond of trust between citizens and the government, the extremes will again be at the gates of power in five years. .

Christian Estrosi recalled that he would remain "everyone's mayor" in the face of rumors of a role in Emmanuel Macron's new government.
