A couple suspected of upstairs theft was recently tried by the court in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales).

The store's security guard noticed that the man's bag, empty when he entered the store, was loaded when he left.

As he tried to search him, the suspect was violent, made racist remarks towards him and threatened him with a knife, asking his accomplice to come out and use a tear gas canister.

Jail for the man

A cashier tried to intervene, but was violently pushed around.

The couple were eventually subdued and arrested for shoplifting by the police.

The cashier, injured, received 40 days of ITT.

In police custody, the suspect insulted a police officer, spitting in his face while trying to flee.

Judged in immediate appearance, the man, already known to justice and suffering from mental disorders, was sentenced to 12 months in prison with continued detention.

His companion, with a clean criminal record, was only given a six-month suspended sentence.
