[While studying] "I have a lot of hobbies, the biggest hobby is reading, and reading has become a way of life for me." Xi Jinping loves reading, which has left a deep impression on the people around him.

His love and obsession with reading ran through the trajectory of his life.

Xinhua News Agency "Study In Progress" tells you the story of Xi Jinping and the book today.

"I have a lot of hobbies. The biggest hobby is reading, and reading has become a way of life for me." Xi Jinping loves reading, which has left a deep impression on the people around him.

His love and obsession with reading ran through the trajectory of his life.

"Reading habits are cultivated by families"

In May 2018, when Xi Jinping visited Peking University, he talked about the interesting story of reading as a child.

"My reading habits are cultivated by my family, and my parents support my reading." Xi Jinping said that since childhood, his father Xi Zhongxun has been very strict with him.

Every day, Xi Jinping writes his reading thoughts into reading notes and gives it to his father for review, while his father circles the poorly written parts and asks him to revise them repeatedly.

This once became a "drudgery" for Xi Jinping.

Sometimes, in order to use a word accurately and accurately, Xi Jinping will turn over the dictionary to check it over and over again, and it will take a whole day to change it.

When Xi Jinping explained these interesting childhood stories, everyone laughed heartily.

Invite people to "eat three scrambled eggs" for a book

In the 1960s, Xi Jinping, who was under 16 years old, came to the Loess Gaopo and started seven years of educated youth.

"Love to read" and "love to learn" are the impressions Xi Jinping left on the villagers of Liangjiahe Village in northern Shaanxi.

The villagers remember that Xi Jinping "brought a box of books to the countryside", read "books as thick as bricks" under a kerosene lamp, and "sometimes he also took books with him when he was eating."

Once, when Xi Jinping heard that an educated youth had the book Faust, he walked 30 miles to borrow it.

On May 4, 2013, Xi Jinping told this story during a discussion with outstanding youth representatives from all walks of life.

"I have a set of Goethe's "Faust" in my place, which Wei compiled three masterpieces, but I just don't want to return it. That person (the owner of the book) asked for the book three times, and I invited him to eat three scrambled eggs and sent him away. Keep watching."

Entering the door of the bookstore, I saw his eyes light up

Xi Jinping not only likes to read books, but also especially likes to buy books.

When Xi Jinping served as secretary of the Ningde prefectural party committee in Fujian, he once went to Xiadang Township, Shouning County for investigation.

The night before, he had finished his meal, went for a walk in the county town, turned around and came to Xinhua Bookstore.

According to Li Jinxian, director of the office of the prefectural party committee at the time, when he entered the bookstore, his eyes lit up.

Xi Jinping said in surprise: "I didn't expect that there are so many good books in the bookstore in Shouning County!"

At that time, Xing Changbao, who worked at the Ningde reporter station of Fujian TV Station, also mentioned a similar story in an interview.

When they travel with Xi Jinping on business, they are often busy until after 1:00 noon, after eating at 2:00, and then have a meeting at 3:00 in the afternoon.

Xi Jinping didn't let it go for a little while. He would go to the Xinhua Bookstore and buy a book or two every now and then.

Sometimes he is very happy when he sees a book that even Beijing can't buy.

"Like reading county annals"

According to several old colleagues, Xi Jinping likes to read county annals.

Every time he went to a place, he had to consult the local county annals. He said that if he did not read the county annals, he would not understand the past and present of the county, and it would be difficult to deeply understand the situation of the county.

When he was the secretary of the Ningde prefectural party committee, Xi Jinping went to Gutian County to investigate and asked Cai Tianchu, the county party secretary at the time, if he could find a copy of "Gutian County Chronicle", and he wanted to read it.

Cai Tianchu found him a county chronicle published during the Republic of China.

The next day, Xi Jinping said to Cai Tianchu: "There are three versions of Gutian County Chronicle, one is from the Republic of China, the other is from the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and the other is from the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty." Cai Tianchu was stunned at the time, he was in Gutian, as the secretary of the county party committee, did not know this.

This detail is enough to show that Xi Jinping's reading is not just a general, but a very in-depth reading.

Xi Jinping also often reads the government records.

Chen Zengguang, then the deputy secretary of the Ningde Prefectural Party Committee, told a story: Once in Xiapu County for research, he took a copy of "Xiapu County Chronicle" for Xi Jinping to read.

That night, Xi Jinping suddenly found him and said, "Help me find a book of Funing House's official journal." He then asked, "Secretary Xi, it's so hard for us to run around all day long, and you have to stay up all night. Is it enough to read books?" Xi Jinping said, "It's not enough to look at the situation and listen to reports like this, but also to look at history. The best embodiment of a county's history is the county annals. , and also write the villain, we know what happened in this place at a glance, and we can learn from it."

"What is often done is reading"

As a leader of the party and state, despite being busy with official business and taking up a lot of personal time, Xi Jinping still insists that "what can often be done is reading."

In Xi Jinping's view, reading can keep people's minds alive, inspire them with wisdom, and nourish their spirit.

From the collection of classics and history to the classics of Marxism and Leninism, from Tang poetry and Song poetry to Chinese and foreign literary masterpieces, from Tang Xianzu to Shakespeare... In recent years, on different occasions at home and abroad, Xi Jinping has mentioned many classic works and listed a rich and extensive book list.

In 2013, at the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Central Party School and the opening ceremony of the 2013 spring semester, Xi Jinping said this: "I often hear some comrades say that they want to study, but 'the work is too busy and there is no time to study'. It sounds plausible, but it's never a reason to take it easy."

Xi Jinping once pointed out that leading cadres should generally read books in three areas: First, the theoretical works of contemporary Chinese Marxism.

Second, do a good job of the various knowledge books necessary for leadership work.

Third, excellent traditional cultural books from ancient and modern Chinese and foreign countries.
