French President Emmanuel Macron has been re-elected.

The centrist President Macron won another runoff with the far-right National Coalition candidate Marine Le Pen after five years, and became the first president in 20 years to be re-elected.

Major French polling organizations estimated that President Macron would get 57-58% of the vote and Le Pen would get 41-42% of the vote.



Macron, who set the record as the youngest president in history, became the first president to be re-elected in 20 years after former President Jacques Chirac.

The gap in the votes between President Macron and Le Pen, estimated by polling organizations, is 16 percentage points. It was only half of the 32 percentage points five years ago.



The far-right National Coalition Candidate Marine Le Pen has admitted defeat and has said he will accept the election results.

European leaders immediately issued a message of congratulations on the election of Macron, who defeated Le Pen, who had shown favorable attitude to Russian President Putin.
