There have been some worrying developments in Japan recently.

The Liberal Democratic Party of Japan has put forward a number of suggestions on revising the directional "National Security Strategy" and other documents, including raising China as a "major threat", increasing the proportion of defense spending to more than 2% of GDP within 5 years, and can be used against other countries' missiles. Bases and headquarters launch strikes, and so on.

At the same time, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently released a new version of the "Blue Book of Diplomacy" in 2022. Some analysts believe that this policy report "abandoned the moderate attitude towards Russia for nearly two decades and adopted a tough stance instead."

In the new edition of the Blue Book, in addition to exaggerating the "China threat" and hyping up issues such as the Taiwan Strait, Japan also severely condemned Russia's "invasion" of Ukraine, and for the first time since 2003 made it clear that the "four northern islands" (known as the "Southern Kuril Islands" in Russia) were occupied by Russia. "Illegal occupation"; stated that he would "deal with" North Korea together with South Korea, and at the same time once again claimed that "Takeshima" (called "Dokdo" in South Korea) was "Japanese territory", which was protested by the South Korean Foreign Ministry.

The territorial disputes and frictions between Japan and its neighboring countries have historical origins, but in the context of the increased risk of global geopolitical conflicts, it is hard not to think of whether Japan intends to take advantage of the chaos. Bureau fishing.

After the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Japan was very active in "punishing Russia". While many European countries were still cautious, Japan, the Asian country, became one of Washington's most high-profile allies.

At the same time, some politicians in Japan, including the Ministry of Defense and other government departments, are sparing no effort to exaggerate the "China-Russia threat" and try to forcibly bind China and Russia.

Their purpose in doing so is very obvious, which is to use it as an "achievement" to win the favor of the United States, in exchange for Washington's "accommodation" to amend the "peaceful constitution" and break through the "special defense".

What deserves special vigilance is that since the Ukrainian crisis, there have been voices in Japan equating this issue with "something in Taiwan", and the influence of such voices is growing.

Influential right-wing politicians in the political arena, including Abe, have repeatedly claimed that "there is something wrong with Taiwan" equals "there is something wrong with Japan", alarmistly tying Taiwan's "security" with Japan, and trying to mislead the Japanese domestic public and even national policies.

This is extremely ridiculous.

They are actually very clear in their hearts that as long as Japan maintains a sufficient "safe distance" from "Taiwan independence" and the Self-Defense Forces are far enough away from the Taiwan Strait, why is it "dangerous"?

In fact, all of the above are just the pretense of Japanese right-wing politicians, whose real purpose is to gradually pursue military unbundling and finally achieve the goal of revising the "Peace Constitution".

After the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, they also intensified their advocacy for joining the so-called "nuclear sharing", which is behind the eagerness to revive militarism and rewrite the post-World War II international order.

If nothing else, what is the concept of increasing defense spending to 2% of GDP within 5 years?

This means that Japan's defense spending has doubled in a short period of time, which is unique in non-war years.

If so, Japan's defense spending could rank third in the world, while it is nominally a "defense-only" country.

The wishful thinking of some people in Japan is that they can carefully balance the situation and use "crises" one after another to achieve military self-unbinding in the context of the Sino-US game.

The Japanese right-wing is "resentful" about the outcome of World War II, which shows that the militaristic ideology has not been truly and thoroughly liquidated in this country.

This has not changed so far.

Now, not only is Washington turning a blind eye to the movements of the Japanese right wing out of geopolitical shortsightedness, but there are even voices in the United States urging Japan to "arm itself".

No matter how Tokyo and Washington sing along across the Pacific Ocean, it will not change the reality that this trend is out of step with the general situation in the region.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida offered sacrifices to the Yasukuni Shrine on the 21st, triggering strong opposition from China, South Korea and other countries.

In fact, in recent years, Japan's right-wing revival of militarism has become more and more obvious, which has caused it to fall into a state of constant discord and even serious confrontation with its neighboring countries.

This also shows that no matter what the excuse is, it is impossible to become a passport to militarism.

The Japanese right-wing forces try to break free from the shackles, and the reaction force it feels will be equally strong.
