Buddhist circles and some civil society elders delivered a petition to the Blue House that special pardons should be given to former President Lee Myung-bak, former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo, and former Justice Minister Cho Kyeong-shim, Professor Jeong Gyeong-shim.

They are said to have emphasized the need for the amnesty of symbolic figures from both camps in order to wash away conflicts and divisions and achieve national unity in the petition.

In addition, it is known that they requested an amnesty for Professor Jung for reasons such as concerns about his health.

About a month before the Buddhist petition, Father Song Ki-in, Father Ham Se-woong, and Pastor Kim Sang-geun requested the pardon of Professor Jeong Kyung-shim and former lawmaker Lee Seok-gi.

Among them, Father Song Ki-in took the lead in the anti-dictatorship struggle and democratization at the National Priests for the Realization of Justice in 1972. He was also called President Moon's 'mentor' as well as the late former President Roh Moo-hyun's 'spiritual support'.

Accordingly, attention is focused on whether President Moon will issue his final amnesty on the 8th of next month, the day before the end of his term, on the anniversary of the Buddha's birthday.

However, a high-ranking official at the Blue House said, "I have never heard of a discussion about amnesty within the Blue House."
