CAIRO -

A state of anger prevailed on social networking sites in Egypt, with a wide spread of images that the Directorate of Awqaf in Ismailia Governorate (east of the country) said to a number of the Ministry's inspectors wandering at night, to ensure that mosques were closed and that no Tahajjud prayer or I'tikaf was held in any of them.

The pioneers of the communication sites launched an attack on the Minister of Endowments, Mukhtar Jumaa, and accused him of restricting Muslims in establishing a great year on good days that do not exceed 10 days a year, on the pretext of adhering to social distancing to confront Corona, at a time when the state announced the decline of the virus, as well as the return of gatherings to their nature. Especially in the streets and cafes, as well as art concerts and sports stadiums.

The Minister of Endowments had announced last week that there is no room for opening mosques for i'tikaaf or tahajjud this year, in light of the continuation of precautionary measures and social distancing measures.

This came despite the fact that mosques are now open for Friday prayers, group prayers and Tarawih prayers.

Prohibition of Famous

A large number of public figures and pioneers of social networking sites circulated pictures of Ministry of Awqaf officials during the inspection tour, and some described them as “a group forbidding good,” and others described them as “the anti-tahajjud prayer squad.” Some were surprised that this inspection coincided with the presence of Thousands of citizens in cafes are watching the football match between Al-Ahly of Egypt and Morocco's Raja in the African Champions League.

Tweeters said that they thought that the pictures were fabricated and that the news was false, before they discovered the authenticity of the news and published it on a number of Egyptian news sites, and some of them compared what the Egyptian Ministry of Endowments is doing to prevent the ritual prayer and i’tikaf, and what the administration of the Prophet’s Mosque is doing to facilitate i’tikaaf, and to distribute a “bag.” I'tikaf" for mosque-goers.

A number of social media pioneers launched a severe attack on the Egyptian Minister of Endowments, claiming that he is not the author of the latest decisions, but rather a mere executor of the decisions of the security authorities, against the background of his old relationship with these agencies, according to their claim.

Mokhtar Gomaa has a previous security background and is trying to vent about it in the endowments, and these inspection committees give him completeness and confirm the closure of mosques and the prevention of seclusion in the last ten days of Ramadan. Far... "From you to God, far away!"

There is no need to repeatedly criticize the Minister of Endowments, Mukhtar Gomaa, in the decisions to prevent the Tahajjud or restrict the Tarawih or Eid prayers, Mokhtar is not a decision-maker, he is an executive secretary, and he is a small agent of the security apparatus known from the days of the legitimate assembly, the decisions of the Ministry of Endowments are for the security services, the minister is an advertising agency About the decision no more

Attempts to stop the decision

Lawyer Montaser Al-Zayat, the former treasurer of the Bar Association, announced that he had submitted an appeal against the decision to prevent the Tahajjud and I’tikaf prayers in the last ten days of Ramadan, but it had not been considered so far, wondering if it was a decision or an instruction.

Al-Zayat said - in a post on his Facebook site - that he waited for the First Circuit of the State Council (the Administrative Judiciary) to consider a special session last Thursday, before it was reported that "the system (the system) has a malfunction," and he said that it may be presented in the usual session on Saturday is the date of the first circle of freedoms, but to no avail.

The Egyptian lawyer mocked the attempts to obstruct the appeal, saying the hours were lost, and the phrase “You missed us tomorrow, Mr.” (an Egyptian phrase used to ridicule the procrastination of government red tape) is the master in the corridors of the State Council, the Liberty District.

Tarawih prayers allowed by the Egyptian authorities were also not spared from restrictions, as the pioneers of the communication sites circulated publications detailing the Ministry of Awqaf’s prevention of completing Tarawih prayers in a mosque in the Helwan suburb of the Egyptian capital, claiming that the precautionary measures were not adhered to.

According to the circulated publications, the endowment inspector ordered the imam of the mosque to end Tarawih prayers after completing the sixth rak’ah under the pretext of approaching the end of the permitted time, as the remaining time will not allow the completion of the prayer, as the maximum time allowed for Tarawih prayers is 30 minutes.

Yesterday, the Awqaf inspector ordered the imam to finish the Tarawih prayer after completing the sixth rak’ah in Al-Maraghi Mosque in Helwan, because the time has arrived at 8:45, and he still has two rak’ahs, the two rak’ahs, and the Witr prayer.

precautionary measures

Last week, the Egyptian Cabinet’s Facebook page announced the meeting of the Minister of Endowments with Ministry officials, during which he stressed the need to follow up on not placing any donation boxes in mosques, adhering to the time and subject of the Friday sermon, and not allowing mosques to open after Tarawih prayers until dawn prayers.

At the meeting, the minister said that whoever wants to perform the ritual prayer should do it in his home, adding that “it is desirable that we live in our homes with night prayers, remembrance and recitation of the Noble Qur’an,” and that there is no room for opening mosques for i’tikaaf or tahajjud this year in light of the continuation of precautionary measures and social distancing measures.

The minister also indicated that the Eid prayer will be held in major mosques and mosques in which Friday prayers are held, and the controls that were held last year in mosques without courtyards, due to the possibility of applying social distancing measures in mosques and the difficulty of controlling their application or in the stampede of worshipers on the squares, he said.
