In Japan, a father who left his two-month-old son in a -18-degree freezer and left unattended is controversial after claiming innocence in court.

According to the Asahi Shimbun on the 21st, at the first trial held at the Osaka District Court the day before, a 43-year-old father, A (43), who was charged with child abuse, admitted that "I put my son in the freezer" and said, "I don't think my actions are abuse." He claimed innocence.

He is accused of putting his two-month-old son in a freezer and leaving the door closed in a hotel room in Fukuoka last April.

Mr. A's abuse was revealed by a hospital doctor who examined the baby in August of last year.

The doctor, who confirmed the symptoms of fractures in A's son who visited the hospital, suspected parental abuse and reported it to the Child Counseling Center.

According to the Japanese local media, evidence of his continued abuse of his son since March of last year was found in the electronic device of Mr. A, which was obtained by the police.

In the videos found, Mr. A showed several abuses, including putting his son in a freezer, attacking his son's face, and blowing dust at his son.

However, during the police investigation, Mr. A did not admit his fault, saying, "I had no intention of abusing the child," and said, "The baby was cute and played a prank."

In the courtroom, Mr. A's lawyer also argued that "it cannot be regarded as abuse."

In response, the local prosecutor pointed out, "The freezer (with the child) is almost sealed when the door is closed."

Crime expert Yasuhira Ogawa said, "Mr. A doesn't see his son as a person, he treats him like a possession."

Currently, the victim is separated from his parents and has been under protection at the child counseling center since September last year, and Mr. A's next trial is scheduled to be held on the 13th of next month.
