Earlier this week, hackers raided a number of Costa Rican authorities.

Among others, the Swedish Tax Agency, the Swedish Customs, social security offices and ministries were affected.

For a couple of hours, all salary payments to the country's government employees were stopped.

The ransomware group Conti has taken on the attack and demanded money from the government to stop the sabotage.

However, the president has refused to pay.

The group has previously ventured into Ireland's healthcare system with canceled treatments and surgeries as a result.

- It has been a very successful hacker group with over a thousand people involved, says cyber security expert Jonas Lejon to SVT News.

- You can spend millions on cyber security, then you can have a single hole that can be open.

The expert: Can happen here too

According to Anne-Marie Eklund Löwinder, self-employed and expert in IT security, it is not impossible that a similar attack is directed at Sweden.

- Purely hypothetically, this can happen here as well, at the same time we have a well-developed infrastructure.

We have supervisory authorities that do their best to push the businesses that have socially important functions to raise the bar to a higher level of security.

But important hygiene factors are still missing in many places.

And that needs to be fixed as soon as possible, she says.

Anne-Marie Eklund Löwinder says that attackers often enter slowly, stay behind and gather information inside the system.

In some cases, the hackers have been probing the terrain for more than a year before the attack.

- The starting point should be that you have already been hacked.

It is important to have several backups, both offline and offside so you can restore the systems after an attack with the least possible damage.

But she does not think that the average person needs to feel anxious.

- It will be difficult for those who are directly affected and it can be difficult for citizens if it is a service that is affected.

Otherwise, I do not think you should worry.
