The National Police has arrested a couple in

Zaragoza

for alleged ill-treatment of their four-month-old daughter.

The baby remains admitted to the ICU in an extremely serious condition with severe injuries and, in principle, she has become deaf and blind.

The father has entered this Friday in preventive detention while the mother was released provisionally.

As has been known this Saturday, it was the father himself,

Edilson TL , 37, who took the little girl, named

Edith

, to the hospital on

the night of April 13 .

He indicated that he was unwell because he had vomited when he was giving him the bottle.

The doctors who attended her confirmed the seriousness of the girl, who was hypotonic, unreactive, with superficial spontaneous breathing and dilated pupils.

The first cranial CT scan performed on him revealed that he had several hemorrhagic foci and in different areas of the head as well as in the retinas of both eyes, all of which are symptoms compatible with the so-called

shaken infant syndrome

.

In principle and pending evolution, the baby has become blind and deaf.

The health services of

the Clinical Hospital

, where the father initially took her, and the

Miguel Servet

Maternity Hospital, where she remains hospitalized, sent two parts to the court, which, in turn, communicated the facts to the National Police.

The police investigation has resulted in the arrest of Edilson TL as the alleged perpetrator of the serious injuries.

Preventive prison

Before the Police he refused to testify, something that, as the judge states in his arrest warrant, which

Heraldo.es

cites this Saturday , if he had done so, he could have provided information about his daughter and shed light on what happened, since he is the only person who was with her.

For all these reasons and due to the seriousness of the injuries and to prevent the detainee from escaping, the magistrate decided to send him to prison as a preventive measure.

The Police also questioned the mother who confirmed, as the father had said, that she had traveled to Barcelona

on April 12

to do some paperwork and that her partner called her on the night of the 13th to tell her that he had taken the girl to the hospital because she was unwell and had been admitted.

On the morning of the 14th, the woman returned to Zaragoza to be with her daughter in the hospital.

The mother was also initially detained for possible ill-treatment, but was later released on bail.
