The mass grave discovered by satellite in Mariupol: the Russians "try to hide the number of dead"
The mayor of Mariupol,
Vadym Boychenko,
has reported the discovery of a new mass grave about 30 meters long dug by Russian troops about 20 kilometers from the city, near the town of
Manhush
.
In statements to television, collected by the Interfax Ukraina agency, Boychenko pointed out that there is information that "all these crimes that occurred in the city of Mariupol and that have signs of war crimes, of genocide" are being hidden by Russian troops in graves common.
Satellite images released Thursday by Maxar Technologies showed what appeared to be mass graves in the town of Manhush, outside Mariupol.
Maxar said the photos showed more than
200 mass graves
in the city, moving away from an existing cemetery.
The graves could contain up to
9,000 dead
, the Mariupol City Council said in a post on the Telegram messaging app.
Thus, he indicated that near Manhush, as its inhabitants explain, Russian troops dug
a 30-meter mass grave
into which they dump the lifeless bodies transported there in trucks.
He added that the occupiers are carrying out a "cleansing" in the city among the municipal officials and workers who have remained in Mariupol.
"They are being transferred somewhere. We think it is behind bars. There they are being interrogated, tortured, and so on," she said.
"This is direct evidence of war crimes and the attempt to cover them up."
