There are 90 million set aside in government grants this year for course activities and the government has commissioned the Folkbildningsrådet to distribute the money.

But as the number of participants increased due to the war in Ukraine, the Folkbildningsrådet already flagged several weeks ago that it would not be enough.

- We have requested 60 million, but we also emphasize that it is very uncertain because the whole situation is so uncertain, says Maria Graner, Secretary General of the Folkbildningsrådet.

Industry organization: It's in a hurry

According to Studieförbunden, it is in a hurry.

Several student unions have already run out of this year's money.

Therefore, the government's spring amendment budget, which was presented earlier this week, was disappointing because it did not contain any supplement, despite the Folkbildningsrådet's application.

- If there are no more resources, there is a serious risk that you will have to slow down or stop the business.

But we want to do this and can do much more if we get funding, says David Samuelsson, Secretary General of the Student Associations.

He is critical of the government and says that politicians have not listened to the signals that more money is needed.

- There will be double messages when the government says that the student unions are so important, but we can not run the business without money, says David Samuelsson.

"Follows the situation"

Today, Minister of Education Anna Ekström (S) can not give any information on whether there will be a supplement or not, but responds to the criticism from the Student Associations.

- Since we have made sure that there were 90 million set aside already in March and changed the regulation so that those from Ukraine receive Swedish lessons from day one, I think we clearly show how important we think this the business is.

- We will of course follow this situation now and with the fact that we have received this new message that some student unions have already mortgaged all the money, says Anna Ekström.
