The proposal is based on a cohesive care chain at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

It may be that a team of 4-5 midwives follows the pregnant woman, and if the birth is delayed, others in the team can take over.

But the details are not clear.

How does it improve the working environment for midwives?

- It is very important that the midwives have a good working environment and many midwives have emphasized that they would like to work like this.

To work with patients they recognize and not start their session with speed dating with three new families that they will help with the delivery work, says Madeleine Jonsson (MP).

Good research results

Research of similar projects in Sweden and internationally shows equally good figures on the medical aspects, says Christina Nilsson, midwife and associate professor, and member of the board of the Gothenburg Midwifery Society.

And when it comes to other aspects, the projects show better results than "regular" maternity care.

The form of care should reduce the risk of premature birth and provide a better delivery experience.

- It is important to meet midwives and doctors you know.

It provides security.

It also provides safer care, there is less risk of something falling between the chairs.

Two parts of the proposal

The second part of the proposal is about an external investigation that will investigate possible solutions to be able to have high quality in maternity care in the future.

The proposal means that a total of SEK 11.5 million is allocated to the project cohesive care chain and the external investigation.

Next week, politicians will take a stand on the proposal.
