After Friday prayers, there have been repeated clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli police around the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

A photographer from the AFP news agency reported on Friday morning that several people were injured.

Photos showed dozens of hooded people throwing stones at police officers in front of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Police fired tear gas and arrested protesters.

It was the second weekend in a row of riots in Jerusalem.

More than 170 people were injured last weekend.

The situation in Jerusalem's old town has been particularly tense for weeks because the Muslim month of fasting, Ramadan, coincided with the Jewish festival of Passover and Easter this year.

The Temple Mount in the Old City is sacred to all three monotheistic religions.

In response to the riots, the radical Islamist Hamas militia fired rockets from the Gaza Strip at Israel this week.

The Israeli army launched airstrikes in the Palestinian Mediterranean enclave.
