It was confirmed that Lee Jong-ho, a candidate for Minister of Science and ICT, donated 1.1 billion won to his spouse, but did not report to the National Tax Service for 10 years, and paid the gift tax belatedly after he was nominated as the minister this time.

Criticism of poor verification comes out.

This is reporter Eom Min-jae.

This is the tax receipt paid by Lee Jong-ho, the wife of Minister of Science and ICT.

This is the receipt for tax item 33, gift tax.

It's been three days since the nominee was nominated as Minister.

10 years ago, in November 2012, Lee bought an apartment in Seocho-gu, Seoul for 1.36 billion won and set it up as a 6 to 4, married couple.

At that time, he gave his wife a total of 1.14 billion won, including a 540 million won stake in the apartment and 600 million won in a separate deposit.

However, the marital gift was not reported to the tax authorities, and after 10 years had passed and he was nominated as a ministerial candidate, he paid the tax belatedly.

As her wife donated an additional 170 million won to pay her gift tax, she also paid her 50 million won in gift tax separately.

The candidate's side explained, "I did not think that the share of the spouse's share was a gift, and I thought that the 600 million won transferred for family living expenses was the limit of the gift tax deduction between the couple, so I did not have to pay the gift tax."

However, it is criticized that failing to even filter the tax arrears is a poor verification.

[Yoon Young-chan / Democratic Party Member: Even in the very basic part, the verification was not done properly.

In this regard, the verification system itself for the ministerial candidates had a very serious problem...

I tried to contact the winner's verification team by phone and text message to hear their position, but no response was received.
