• Congreso Echenique limits the 'broad front' of Yolanda Díaz and limits it to the brand: "Her space is United We Can"

  • Politics Yolanda Díaz responds to Pablo Iglesias: "The leadership is decided by the people"

Yolanda Díaz is the one chosen by Pablo Iglesias, but she is not yet the leader of the new political space that will transcend United We Can.

And she will not be until the bases of the forces that form this broad front ratify her as a candidate for the next general elections.

“I am a democrat”, the second vice president of the Government had to remember yesterday after Iglesias had cast doubt in recent days as to whether it had been the best option to choose her without leaving the United parties. We can decide freely through a procedure democratic and insisted on Tuesday that Díaz "exists" thanks to the role of Podemos in the coalition Executive with the PSOE.

But the Minister of Labor, who manages the times to the millimeter and barely gives details of how she intends to articulate the plan or what weight Podemos will have, already recognizes to settle all controversy that without the support of the militancy she will not aspire to be the first president of the Government .

“If I take a step forward, the citizens will decide,” the minister clarifies.

"I will be subjected to a process of democratic scrutiny, as we do in our space,"

explained yesterday to the microphones of Radio Galega.

And she responded to Iglesias that she is "free" above any selection.

The question is about what "citizenship" and in what "space" said consultation will be held, since Díaz's future platform seeks to be wide, transversal, broad and go "beyond the parties."

However, there is nothing more organic than primaries.

What militancy does the vice president refer to?

To that of all the parties that make up this new political space, as this newspaper has learned and confirmed from their environment.

That is to say, for now, it must be endorsed by the affiliates of Podemos and Izquierda Unida, at least.

Iglesias never had that double endorsement, in three appointments.

A support that does not seem difficult to obtain for Díaz, since nobody doubts in the ranks of United We Can that she should be the successor, although the distribution of weights is seen as the main headache of the design of the new brand of the vice president .

The support of other formations and their respective militancies may depend on this question, such as, among others, Compromís

or More Country, with which Díaz has been close and willing to dialogue in search of harmony that crystallizes in an electoral bet in which all these acronyms participate.

In any case, the moment in which Díaz officially becomes the presidential leader of the political space to the left of the PSOE continues to be delayed.

The vice president was expected to launch this month a "listening process" of "more or less" half a year with which to approach civil society and social agents - who will have a special weight in her project - but she postponed it by the impact of the Russian invasion in Ukraine.

She has now decided to reactivate it "shortly", which means that the materialization of her project will not arrive before the end of the year, at the earliest.

And before submitting to the democratic consultation of all the parties, she must decide if she is finally a candidate. An extreme that no one doubts, but she avoids confirming.
