The vote went quickly, with a simple "aye" - yes - from the members without the proposal going to a formal counting of votes.

The vote is a direct measure of Johnson's support.

Scandals with parties during the corona pandemic, as well as a politically shaky time for the government, have gained the confidence to fall for the Prime Minister.

May lead to departure

The opposition Labor Party called for a vote to open a formal inquiry into whether Johnson had lied in Parliament.

Late on Thursday afternoon, the votes fell, where members were allowed to vote according to conscience and not party line.

It was a setback for the Prime Minister, which could lead to his resignation.

It is the practice for a minister to resign if the independent parliamentary inquiry establishes that the minister has lied in parliament.

Something that Labor leader Keir Starmer demands:

- The simple principle is that honesty, integrity and telling the truth are important in politics.

Fined earlier

The Prime Minister has already been fined for gatherings in, among other places, the garden on 10 Downing Street in London.

The fine specifically concerns a birthday party in June 2020.

The Prime Minister has paid.

And apologized.

But that may not be enough for the leaders of the Conservative Party Tories.

Johnson himself is traveling in India during the vote, commenting that he "must do the job" as prime minister.
