Opinion polls show that the majority believe that incumbent President Emmanuel Macron won Wednesday's televised debate, with 59 percent of French voters polled Macron as the winner, according to Reuters.

- Marine Le Pen was on the defensive.

Actually, it is strange when Macron is the one who has been in power for five years and is to be held accountable for what he has done during these years, says SVT's Christoffer Wendick, on location in France.

Veil ban was raised

Le Pen's loan from a Russian bank was one of the points that Macron criticized her for.

He says it makes her dependent on Russia.

When the pension issue and the National Assembly's line to ban the veil in France were raised, it also heated up.

Such a ban would "create civil war in the suburbs," Macron said.

- She has been more hovering around such a ban in the last week and said that you have to show some understanding.

Yesterday, however, she was back on the course she has been for several years, that it is something that must be banned, says SVT's reporter.

It is even between the candidates even if Macron has some leadership.

A compilation of opinion polls conducted by Politico shows 55 percent support for Macron and 45 percent for Le Pen.

The message of both candidates during the debate was to get the voters to the ballot box on Sunday.

- The strongest message was: it is not decided, you have to go and vote for me, says Wendick.
