On Thursday, the Frankfurt Regional Court found the 22-year-old from the Bavarian district of Augsburg guilty of attempted manslaughter and serious bodily harm, among other things, and confiscated the confiscated vehicle – an SUV.

In the verdict, the presiding judge spoke of the “tragic end of a joyride” that the accused undertook on Good Friday 2021 from his hometown in the Augsburg district to Frankfurt.

Shortly after midnight, he was angry at the later victim, who wanted to photograph him for a traffic violation, in the station district of the Main metropolis.

At five to ten kilometers per hour, he drove towards the 53-year-old, who was finally run over by the heavy vehicle.

The man has been confined to a wheelchair since the incident.

The defendant made a confession in court.

He had hoped that the pedestrian would step aside in time.

Nevertheless, the judges assumed a conditional intent to kill, the braking distance would have been only 12 to 48 centimeters.

The court saw no evidence of attempted murder.

The victim was not "suspecting and defenseless", but was in an "open argument" with the accused.

The public prosecutor's office had assumed that the murder had been attempted by malicious intent and had therefore requested eight years in prison.

Among other things, the court assessed the payment of 10,000 euros in damages to the victim as a mitigating sentence.

The defendant was disadvantaged by the massive permanent consequences for the victim.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.

The defense had asked for a suspended sentence.
