Have you just left Hesse on your Easter holiday or have you already returned from the same?

For example, have you been to Switzerland or Saxon Switzerland?

Maybe a trip to Dresden?

Or did you only visit the European countries on a trip to the respective replicas in the Europapark in Rust?

Wherever you are or have been, you have hardly seen masks there.

You have disappeared from public life.

At first glance, Corona no longer plays a role - or at least it seems so.

At most, when going to church on Easter Sunday, you had to dig out the mask again, which is probably due to the singing together.

Otherwise, in the shop, on the way to the table in the restaurant or when strolling through the shopping center, people have dropped their masks: Corona is a distant past.

Hooray?

Back in Hessian everyday life and in the company, the reverse shock follows: as much as freedom irritated in the distance, the discipline that is not so typical for the Hessians is surprising at home: when walking down the corridors, on the way to the canteen, when visiting in the supermarket and in the pharmacy the same picture.

People wear masks, so Corona is still close to present.

Pity?

vegetate after illness

And what is correct now?

On vacation you had the feeling of being alone with your mask, so you were a little tense at first, but then, when in doubt, you gave it up.

It's called peer pressure, and somehow it worked.

The Corona warning app had been colored deep red for weeks beforehand, what harm would a few more risky encounters do?

It will work out.

The problem is what happens when things actually go wrong: because the number of infections reported may be falling, but the number of unreported cases is huge, which for once is undisputed in the Corona context.

And it is also true that in most cases the course of the disease can be overcome at home, a hospital stay is not an issue and life is never in danger.

But:

A "mild" course is not to be equated with a pleasant course.

All too many who were "caught" by the virus after all know that.

Not only do those affected often vegetate around in bed or on the sofa for more than a week, in too many cases they also lose the opportunity to pursue strenuous physical activities afterwards.

It can take weeks before you can do endurance sport that deserves the name - and that also affects vaccinated people.

problem for the pre-existing

None of this is as bad as a life-threatening illness, nor does it justify the restrictions of the past.

But it's important enough to reflect on whether any freedom you've gained should be used excessively.

In addition, for people with pre-existing conditions, who always have to assume the worst, such behavior is more tied to their homes than before because they can now rely on being confronted with the unwary outside.

So it's good news that the Hessians seem to be a bit more cautious than, say, the Swiss or the Saxons.

It's not a mistake to continue this behavior for a while.

For your own protection - and for the protection of third parties.

Those returning home who have become accustomed to freedom without a mask should also consider this.
