The Madrid Assembly has approved this Thursday an

express reform of the Telemadrid Law

to lower the quorum required in the election of its general director.

With the modification proposed by the PP and allowed with Vox through its abstention, the highest authority of the public entity could be appointed with a simple majority of the regional Parliament instead of requiring the votes in favor of two thirds of the deputies, as until now .

Despite his support, Isabel Díaz Ayuso's investiture partner has argued that the chain should be privatized and that is what he will do if one day he enters the Puerta del Sol government, in addition to criticizing the fact that the president's team be "obsessed" with his "control".

This last argument has also been put forward by the three groups on the left, although in their case they have voted against the amendment.

The reform approved this Thursday will allow the

PP

, which has only more seats -65- than the sum of those of

Más Madrid

,

PSOE

and

United We Can

-58-, it would be worth it with the abstention of

Vox

-13 representatives- to be able to place at the forefront Telemadrid to the person you deem appropriate.

With the regulations in force, he now needed the support of at least two opposition parties, which meant having to agree on a consensus candidate.

In Ayuso's group, this modification is intended to "avoid blockages" by minority forces in the management bodies of the public company.

"In addition, we have a board of directors that does not represent the will expressed by the people of Madrid on May 4 at the polls", defended the deputy

Almudena Negro,

alluding to the presence of members appointed by the

purple

formation and Ciudadanos, who did not achieve representation.

On behalf of Vox,

José Luis Ruiz

has censured that the PP has become "obsessed with the control of Telemadrid above the real interest of the people of Madrid", although at the same time he has put on the medal that Ayuso is no longer "the young progressive disciple of [Cristina] Cifuentes" who "gladly" made laws such as the public broadcaster and the LGTBI.

However, in the midst of this amalgamation of reproaches, the party located furthest to the right of the political spectrum has made it easier for the reform to be carried out.

The criticisms in the left wing have all gone in the same direction.

In

More Madrid

they accuse the party that governs in the region of having given a new "authoritarian coup" to "appropriate" the public channel;

the

PSOE

criticizes that it tries to have a media "transmission belt" of its policies;

and

United We Can

denounce that they want to "go back to the dark years of Esperanza Aguirre" to "manipulate without complexes."

In July of last year the PP already managed to approve an express reform of the Law of Radio Television Madrid that reduced the duration of the mandate of the general director from six to four years.

The immediate effect of the change was the dismissal of the person who had held that position since 2017,

José Pablo López

, to put in his place a provisional administrator appointed directly by the Government of Puerta del Sol,

José Antonio Sánchez

.

As was the case eight months ago, Ayuso's party has now processed the new modification proposal through the single reading procedure, which is an

emergency route

that shortens deadlines, eliminates debate in the branch commission and does not allow the presentation of amendments by the groups with representation.

Its objective is to "provide greater efficiency" in the regulation of the chain and "avoid stagnation dynamics in the governing and management bodies, facilitating their renewal".

The proposed change in the method of electing the director is also extended to the members of the board of directors, who

are reduced from nine to five:

in the first round they must be elected by two-thirds of the Madrid Assembly, but in the next it will be enough with a simple majority for his appointment.

"If a result is not obtained in the second vote either, new candidates will be required from the proponent groups of the rejected candidates until the quota is filled," says the text of the project.

Before the dismissal of José Pablo López, Ayuso came to regret in an interview with EL MUNDO that she was "the only regional president and of the Government of Spain" who had

a television that was "critical" of her

.

The direct designation of Sánchez as her successor in July of last year had to be ratified later in the Assembly with the support of Vox, which demanded in return a 10% reduction in the network's budget.
